I’m trying to sell a bicycle, here is an example of a typical craigslist email fishing scam. Note that it sounds authentic but at no point does the sender actually mention the item by it’s actual name nor bother to capitalize the “i”. Getting lazy Jeff-Dick-Rell.

Please send all curtious replies to jeffdickrell@gmail.com, for impending meeting regarding the item you have most judiciously listed.

Jeff,

I have a few items for sale at the moment. Which item are you interested in?

I usually reply to these like this* - that way in case it is an idiot with money, I can still get his money.

*only if his name is Jeff.

Yeah, doesn’t work if the fool’s name isn’t Jeff.

What is he after exactly? It sounds like a bot but it also sounds like they’re trying to meet with you. What do they want?

It’d make sense if they were asking you to blindly send money, but they’re not...

I mean, if they did meet you, wouldn’t their robotic cover be blown?

Just read it, is there any mention about the actual bicycle?

Yeah I know, there isn’t. But what’s he trying to scam you for?

I don’t know I never respond to scam emails, I don’t want them to have my real email address.
